A journey through Aboriginal Australia
Walter Edmund Roth (1861-1933) was a physician, ethnographer and protector of Aborigines. W.E. Roth studied biology at Magdalen College, Oxford, where he was a contemporary of (Sir) Baldwin Spencer. In 1887 came to Australia in late 1887 and practiced m\ medicine in north-west Queensland. In 1897 he published Ethnological Studies Among North-West Central Queensland Aborigines and in 1898 was appointed as the first northern protector of Aboriginals, based at Cooktown.
