A journey through Aboriginal Australia
Mounted Constable Ernest Cowle (1863-1922) served at Illamurta Springs, southwest of Alice Springs, from 1893 until his retirement due to ill health, in 1903. Cowle was an experienced bushman and acted as a guide to the 1894 Horn Expedition of which Spencer was a member. Cowle collected Aboriginal artefacts, documented traditions and also collected fauna specimens which he sent to Spencer.
