My dear Jack
Mother having written to you last week it is my turn to fire a shot at you this week. First of all let me say that I am enclosing ‘a Postal note for 10/- to cover cost of your books.. You will make a profit of 6d on this transaction - I was very pleased with your last letter giving results of your exams so far I think you are doing admirably & I feel confident that you will ??? up one of the scholarships at the end of the year. You do not say that you are doing any Arithmetic but I presume you are as you know that a pass in that subject is essential before you can become eligible for the Medical Schools. I consider it a great piece of good fortune that you are able to study German with a German Teacher, so much depends upon getting hold of the right accent - ??? to let me know the percent you get in every exam. The smallest detail about your studies interests me – Mother too.
Jim Dunkling left by the Paringa for a fortnight holiday yesterday morning & will doubtless see something of you. I am sorry that Mr ?? could not let us have you
