Notes

Spencer and Gillen record the Arrernte name for the locality of the Alice Springs Telegraph Station as either 'Chauritchi’ or 'Tchauritji'. Chauritchi is described as "a rocky hill close to Alice Springs" (NTCA, 1899: 326) Brooks notes that the area where Charles Creek meets the Todd River is known as Tyuretye (Sometimes spelt Choritja) and is regaded as the real central point of Mparntwe" (1991:14) T.G.H. Strehlow (1971:770) notes Tjoritja as the "original name for Alice Springs."
