Spencer & Gillen

A journey through Aboriginal Australia

Wajamara, Jack

Wajamara was a Yanyuwa rainmaker, a man who possessed narnu-nyiri, powersongs. The identity of this man - whom Spencer and Gillen simply referred to as an 'Anula [Yanyuwa] rainmaker' - was ascertained by three senior men of the Wawukarriya clan, Isaac Walayungkuma, Dinny McDinny and Pyro Dirdiyalma in conversation with anthropologist John Bradley in 1981.
