Spencer records this man's skin name as 'Thapungerta' on reverse of print XP14282. "After dinner we made a start with ‘Zulu’ a very intelligent Warramunga as interpreter and an aged and most remarkable old warrior as chief witness." (Spencer's 1901 Personal Journal, July 25 Camp 39.Tennants Creek) Possibly Zulu Jappangarti, a traditional owner of Tennant Creek who also acted as an informant and interpreter for W.E.H. Stanner in the 1930s. (Nash, D 1984: 16). When preparing for the publication of the Northern Tribes of Central Australia Gillen sent telegrams to Tennant Creek asking James Field to ask further follow up questions of Zulu and another Warumungu man named ‘Cockney’ (MDS, 2001:367). ‘Zulu’ is pictured in XP9246 and XP14422.
